Research

My research currently investigates the relationship between the working classes have with concepts of "high-art". The questions I aim to answer is how to break down forms of contemporary art and theatre practice to make it more accessible and digestible for working-class audiences. I am wanting to develop the previous work of Joan Littlewood and John McGrath to craft a new "Socialist Theatre" creating an art form that is ultimately a new 'Good Night Out'... enjoyable and familiar yet thought-provoking and inquisitive work.

This research stems from my personal experience of being a working-class artist and discovering several forms of art and theatre that felt alienating to someone from my background. Despite enjoying the forms presented to me and finding my own way to access the work, I feel that the artistic style of the post-dramatic, in particular, that of the work of Muller, Grotowski and Kantor, is sometimes reserved for theatregoers who are in the "know".  I am particularly interested in Hauntology and the culture that haunts us.

Workshops

I am available to lead a variety of different performance workshops. My training has led me to discover and develop my own unique way of practice from established European theatre-makers.

I have extensive experience working professionally with theatre impresarios such as Willy Russell, touring and performing in venues such as Liverpool's Empire and Royal Court, Bloomsbury Theatre, London and regional venues around the United Kingdom. All of this means I am a dynamic and insightful workshop leader; I am well-equipped to offer practical and professional advice.

I am able to take workshops with people ranging from 7 years old to University level and beyond. I am adaptable in my approach and able to shape the content of the workshop to suit the needs of the group.

Furthermore, I am a registered in the LAMDA teachers directory so I am able to tutor towards these exams.

Below are some general topics I cover however, if you see something that isn't there please contact me to discuss further as I am able to tailor to your needs!
